Bias audit

An independent evaluation of an automated system to assess whether it produces disparate impact on protected groups. NYC Local Law 144 is the flagship U.S. example: covered automated employment decision tools used in hiring or promotion need an annual independent bias audit, public summary results, and candidate notices (in effect since July 2023 (enforcement began July 5, 2023)). Bias testing is the technical work that feeds these audits.
